Special Metals offers the largest range of nickel alloys and product forms, as well as cobalt alloys, to more than ten worldwide markets. We produce nickel alloys in all standard mill forms, from large ingots and billets to plate, sheet, strip, tubing, bar and wire, the latter of which includes core and filler wires for welding products. The company has manufacturing and research facilities in the USA and Europe, sales offices in North America, Europe and Asia, and a distribution network including most of the industrialised countries of the world.

Special Metals (Wiggin) Limited is an advanced, sophisticated plant, producing materials which are used at the frontiers of modern technology, but its roots go back to 1835 when two men founded a business refining nickel. This business grew to become known as Wiggins and played a leading role in the development of new materials and the technologies needed to manufacture them. E.g. the development of the special nickel alloys used in both Sir Frank Whittle’s first gas turbine aircraft engine and the Olympus engines that powered Concorde.

Today the Hereford plant is Special Metals Corporation's second largest plant and still bears the name of Wiggin in the Company name.

The Company is a material manufacturer, processor and stockist of nickel alloys in many forms, including ingot, billet, forgings, bar, section, plate, sheet, strip, tube, wire, foil, powder and powder products for corrosion resisting, heat resisting, electrical, thermo-electric, magnetic and controlled expansion applications.

To improve and develop our manufacturing operations in the key areas of Productivity, Cost and Safety, we have a number of opportunities for Graduates. Working closely with the manufacturing and engineering teams on specific process development projects including manufacturing engineering, lean manufacturing and process improvements you will have the opportunity to develop your own personal skills and enhance your academic learning through experience. You must be eager, committed and innovative in your approach to both managerial and technical issues and able to implement good working practices, deliver agreed objectives and maintain our high health & safety standards. Candidates will have the opportunity to progress through a management development programme.
